Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself prior to calling Strogen's Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give Strogen's Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 603-923-4570 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
